PC Computer Repairs
We repair and upgrade desktop computers of every kind: office towers, small form factor and mini PCs, all-in-ones, gaming PCs and workstations. Bring the base unit to Willow Walk, without the monitor and cables unless the fault involves them.
When it will not start
A desktop that powers on with no picture is more often memory, the graphics card or the power supply than a dead motherboard. One that does nothing at all usually has a failed power supply, or on a mini PC a failed external adapter. We test in that order, cheapest cause first, so you are not sold a motherboard you did not need.
By type of desktop
Business desktops
Dell OptiPlex, HP EliteDesk and ProDesk and Lenovo ThinkCentre machines use power supplies and boards specific to each chassis. We match parts to the exact model and size.
All-in-ones
The computer sits behind the screen and uses laptop-style parts. A black screen with the PC still running is usually the panel or its backlight.
Gaming PCs
Overheating, failed liquid cooler pumps, graphics card faults and restarts under load. Before an upgrade we check that the power supply and case can take the new card.
Mini PCs
Intel NUC, Mac mini, ThinkCentre Tiny and similar. Many that seem dead only need a new power adapter.
Custom and home-built PCs
Standard parts throughout, so almost anything can be replaced. Tell us the motherboard and power supply models if you know them.
Workstations
Several drives, sometimes in RAID, and ECC memory. Tell us how the machine is set up before any storage work.
Upgrades that are worth it
Replacing a hard drive with an SSD is the biggest improvement for an older desktop, followed by more memory. We clone the existing drive so Windows, programs and files carry over. See upgrades.
Your files
If the computer is not worth repairing, the drives can usually still be read. See data recovery, or find your model to see how its storage is fitted.
