What we see on MacBook Pro Touch Bar (2016-2020) machines
- 2016 to 2019 models use the butterfly keyboard, which fails from dust under the keys and is replaced along with the top case and battery.
- 2016 and 2017 models are known for backlight cable wear, which shows as a stage-light pattern along the bottom of the screen or a backlight that cuts out as the lid opens further.
- From 2018 the T2 chip encrypts the soldered SSD, so data recovery depends on reviving the original logic board.
