The Dell XPS 13 takes an M.2 SSD. We clone the existing drive to a larger one so Windows, programs and files carry over unchanged.

Memory in the Dell XPS 13 is soldered and cannot be upgraded. It is worth knowing this before paying anyone for a memory upgrade.

Notes from the workshop
- Battery swelling that lifts the trackpad or palm rest is something we see regularly on the XPS 13. A swollen battery should be replaced before it damages the trackpad or chassis.
- Charging is over USB-C on recent models. When a port stops charging, the fault is usually on the motherboard and is repaired at component level.
- Memory is soldered to the motherboard, so it is fixed at whatever the laptop was bought with.
Data recovery from the Dell XPS 13
The SSD in the Dell XPS 13 can be removed and imaged on our own equipment, so files can usually be recovered even when the machine will not start. Recent Windows machines often have device encryption or BitLocker switched on. If so we will need the recovery key, which is normally saved in your Microsoft account.
